I did NOT have Dr. Ellinor Haglund as my PhD Advisor during my enrollment at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Chemistry PhD Program. Therefore, I do not know how Dr. Haglund is as a PhD Dissertation Advisor or Masters Thesis Advisor.
HOWEVER, I do have Dr. Ellinor Haglund as one of my Dissertation Committee Member Professors. Therefore, the following below are my reviews of Dr. Ellinor Haglund's performace as a Dissertation Committee Member based on my experiences with her & what I thought of her in my opinion:
If you are a Chemistry Major PhD Student or Masters Student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Chemistry PhD Program & Graduate Program, where you are working with a Biochemistry Topic or Organic Chemistry Topic PI research lab (such as if your PI are Drs. Tius, Williams, Hvyl, Kumarshiro, or Jarrett), then Dr. Ellinor Haglund is a suitable choice to be 1 of your 5 committee members since Dr. Haglund is also a professor with high affiliation with Biochemistry & Organic Chemistry Subjects.
Additionally, if you are from an outside department of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, such as you are doing a PhD at JABSOM or a PhD in the UH Manoa Biology Department, Dr. Haglund can be an excellent choice to be your "5th" Member of your Dissertation Committee (aka. The University Representative) since Dr. Haglund's Biochemistry Background does have some similarities to Biological Subjects such as Medical Stuff at JABSOM or Cell Biology Stuff at Biology Department.
As a Dissertation Committee Member, especially during the Pre-Oral Exams & Final Oral Dissertation Defense Exams, Dr. Haglund will mostly ask you topics that are Biochemistry & Basic Organic Chemistry Related.
Based on my personal experience with Dr. Haglund as a Dissertation Committee Member, she does asked me some Biochemistry Questions such as Michaelis Menten Kinetics stuff since my dissertation project does have some affiliations to it. Some of the questions Dr. Haglund asked me during my Oral Exams can be trivial, BUT can still be manageable in answering without feeling demoralized or feeling that the professor is giving you a hard time... In my experience, I feel Dr. Haglund is better than the other Biochemistry professors like Dr. Kumashiro & Dr. Jarrett in that when she asked the oral exam questions, although some questions can be trivial, overall her oral exam questions can be manageable & you can still able to feel you can do it to the best of your ability.
As a Disseration Committee Member, Dr. Haglund can also be a TRUSTWORTHY professor to ask for Letters of Recommendation or be part of your List of References for your future career campaigns after completing your Masters or PhD Degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Haglund is DIRECT & she can directly tell you if you if she can or cannot be writing a letter of recommendation or be a reference.
As I stated above, I do NOT have Dr. Haglund as a PI, therefore, I do NOT know her characteristics as a PI. However, I heard rumors from her other current & former students about Dr. Haglund & most are positive reviews about her & I did observed that a fair amount of the graduate students who had Dr. Haglund for PI were able to graduate on time with their Masters or PhD Degrees. But as I said before, I do NOT have Dr. Haglund directly as a PI, therefore I do NOT know how Dr. Haglund management of her research lab would be; but based on my observations, a fair amount of students working under Dr. Haglund mentorship did NOT stayed way too long in the Masters or PhD Program & were able to graduate on-time within a specific time frame.
