    ## Advisor Style & Mentorship
    - The first 3 months to 1 year working for Dr. Martins-Green is usually positive. As time goes on, students have reported back that the honeymoon phase is getting shorter.
    - She will push you to write both papers and grants, you will likely get them funded which looks great on your resume. She does help with editing but often insults her students while making the paper or proposal great.
    - She is unable to give purely *constructive* criticism. She might give you some constructive cristism but it will always come with desrtuctive crisitsm along with it. If the unconstructive crisism is in an email, she might apologize if you point it out.
    - Most of her students are relatively succesful despite this treatment however she has failed to write letter of recs for some of her most sucessful students, they often got their jobs anyway.
    - She has done the classic academic thing where she "holds a worker back" by not giving a letter of rec until they get something more done on their previous project. She doesn't seem to do this anymore though.
    - You will be told after a deadline has passed that you should have applied for it. (or very shortly before the deadline)

    ## Expectations for PhD Students
-Expectations are to read her mind. Often, she will say something like "you should have known what I actually meant" because you followed her advice to a T, and it failed.
-Wants you to apply for your own grants (a good thing)
    - Stay up on the litterature and be prepared to summarized it all back to her in a way she understands
    - You must always be prepared to drop everything and update her on your research. Your raw data must be analyzed and made into understandable figures right away. She will get angry if you show her raw data.
    - She will ask you to send her the same files multple times
    - She wants at least 1 first author publication from each grad student. Prefers a second publication that doesn't need to be 1st author.
    - She says she wants weekly meetings but cancels them often. She is very inconsistent with scheduling.

    ## Funding & Support
    - Funding in the lab is hard to come by these days because Dr. Martins-Green has been writing and rewriting the same few grants over and over again. Historically however, she seems to only expect her workers to TA once or twice a year
    - If a graduate student rotates in her lab and asks about funding, the usualy response is "If I think you're work ethic is good enough, I'll FIND FUNDING."

    ## Research
    - All the research is interesting and potentially benefitical for humanity, but they are entirely driven by the PostDocs, Grads, and Undergrads.
    - She doesn't entirely keep up with the science. If you're a really independant researcher who knows their topic really well, you might thrive, but if you need ANY type of scientific guidance, you'll have to find that in another academic mentor.
    - She is pretty good at suggesting technical improvements on assays she is knowlegeable about, but she is not knowlegeable about any modern assays.
    - In my opinion this women is a decent scientist, but a poor manager and mentor.

    ## Lab Culture
    - Dr. Martins-Green harbors a very negative and competative culture in the lab. She often compares students with eachother in order to "motivate" them into working harder than their peers. For example "ABC person works so much harder than you and they have XYZ reason that they shouldn't be."
    - She often either lies or forgets what she says. She would often say she wanted an experiement a certain way, then if the experiement didn't work due to her suggestion, she would pretend later she never said that. Former students have had to record her to show she was doing this. Other students simply used to email her back what she said, allow her to confirm it, and use that as proof in case her mind changes. This could be genuine forgetfullness, but it really only happens when her advice/suggestions dont work out.
    - She will completely stop talking to students if they upset her
    - She has gossiped about past students who filed a formal complaint with her in front of the whole lab at lab meetings, telling us what the acusations were and asking us on the spot what we thought.
    - She raises her voice at her students/employees
    - She has made negative comments towards students who still live at home to save money
    - She has made negative comments about student who had to leave to pray during the day (also rolling her eyes)
    - She has made sterotypying generalizations about LBGTQ folk (usually positive but still generalizations)
    - Prior to Covid-19 reaching the United States, comments about how Italy’s mass deaths were due to the habits of indivual Italian citizens.
    - She has told a student “you guys don’t eat pizza” likely refering to his ethnicity
    - She gossips about past students or students who have left her lab ebruptly. She would specifically go on and on about a former PhD students' depression, framing the situation in a way where that student seemed "crazy". I found it very innapropriate to hear her talk about a former employees mental health status.
    - When shes teaching an undergraduate class, she will often make comments like: “this generation is soft” or “this is the snowplow generation because their parents clear all the ways for them.”
    - Other racially insensative comments I can't mention.

No, I don't recommend this PI.
