Overall, he will be a good mentor for self-motivated students. He won't have much time to work with you in person but won't affect your working pace and can give you good high-level advice. He is a very nice person and can also support you more than academics if you need.
## Advisor Style & Mentorship
Just promoted to full Prof. and associated director of Robotics these years. Very respectful to everyone in the lab and the community. No push to students to publish papers. Very busy but willing to meet when you have something to update and talk with him.
## Expectations for PhD Students
3 individual works. No need to publish at very top venues for each of them.
## Funding & Support
Not many but recently got some from industrial companies.
## Research
He cannot tell you very insightful thoughts about SOTA, but his sense on common research questions is reliable, e.g. which direction to explore; which conference to submit papers; who to connect with for more advice, etc.
## Lab Culture
Supportive. Many PhDs are international students and get along well.
